Born in China in the mid-1990s, Singles' Day has become the largest online shopping marathon in the entire East, making it so famous around the world. Why is it celebrated on November 11th? The date was chosen by a group of students from the University of Nanjing as it is made up of 1 (11/11), the number that, by antonomasia, brings to mind the idea of the individual in his solitude. The real breakthrough, however, occurred in 2009 when Alibaba, the Chinese online shopping giant, decided to take advantage of Singles' Day to launch an entire day of online sales. In just a few years, given the incredible and unexpected success, more and more stores, both Chinese and international, have decided to participate offering promotions and reductions on any type of product.
For 24 hours, the major e-commerce giants upload increasingly advantageous offers until midnight. What better opportunity to browse all the offers and buy mobile phones, clothes, home accessories at really discounted prices? This day, despite only a few weeks after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, has always recorded record sales since its first edition.
